“Asbestos was a key material in the shipbuilding industry and Plymouth is one of the areas in the UK that has been most affected by asbestos related disease which can take several forms. We have a team at Nash & Co who are specialist asbestos compensation solicitors; we have considerable experience in getting the compensation for employees that they rightfully deserve.”
Mike Shiers, Partner
Where was asbestos used? As a versatile material asbestos was used very widely, in a variety of forms, in the building of hospitals, schools and homes in addition to many other civil engineering and large-scale construction projects; more specifically the material is found, for example, in pipe insulation, corrugated roofing sheets, ceiling tiles and some paints.
What about the diseases? The four main diseases caused by asbestos are: mesothelioma which is an aggressive form cancer which affects the lining of the lungs, asbestos related lung cancer which affects the lungs directly, asbestosis which is a disease that results in scarring of lung tissue and pleural plaque & pleural thickening where there is damage to the lining of the lungs.
How do I know if I have a claim? Asbestos disease affects many people in many trades including construction and demolition workers, shipbuilders, welders, electricians, plumbers and plasterers along with people who may have been exposed when contaminated washing clothing.
