Success in Business Speaker ProfilesFeb 28, 2020
Our hugely popular event, Success in Business, returns on Wednesday 4th March, and we think we’ve got one of our best line ups of speakers yet! Have a look at the speakers and their backgrounds below, and see if you agree!
We’re all sold out in terms of tickets, but if you want to be added to the mailing list for the next event in October, please email [email protected]
Austin Blackburn – Partner, Head of Commercial Team, Nash & Co Solicitors
Austin joined Nash & Co in September 2005 from a large regional firm in East Anglia, where he had practiced as a commercial solicitor for many years. He’s highly experienced in Company & Commercial Law – especially contract work, business sales, acquisitions, reorganisations, intellectual property, shareholder and director rights & responsibilities. He relocated to the South West to be nearer relatives and for the quality of life especially for his family.
When asked why Austin prefers Commercial Law, he said “I enjoy the challenges of dealing with the variety and often complex legal situations that arise in commercial transactions and I value maintaining a close working relationship with the management and ownership of my business clients both large and small.” He maintains strong skills in a wide range of legal issues relevant to the commercial sector and has a pragmatic approach to dealing with his client’s needs.
Austin will be discussing Intellectual Property, including trademarks and copyright and how this can affect your business.
Ali Carnegie – Managing Director, Total Energy Solutions
“We believe businesses have a right to open and honest information about their energy and we offer a service not readily available in the utility market, of which we are justly proud.” – Ali Carnegie
We also believe the wider community should benefit from business success. Over the years, several industry myths have been generated by brokers, the main being that one broker can get better prices than another.
This is simply not true. All brokers receive the same offers from the utility companies. The variance in price comes from the level of commission levied by the broker. We are transparent about the commission we earn, giving our clients the confidence that we are doing the best job for their business.
At Success in Business, Ali will be discussing green energy, and the options for your company moving forwards.
Adam Croney, Director, Thomas Westcott Chartered Accountants
Growth means different things to different businesses. It could mean growing in size, impact or profitability, or it could mean readying for a sale or change in ownership. Irrespective of what growth means for you – whether that’s raising finance, or looking to sell a business – it is vital that you prepare for it in order to maximise the benefit and ensure your Success in Business.
As an experienced accountant and business advisor, I will be covering some of the key areas to consider when wanting to raise finance, as well as what to consider to support a successful sale.
David Kilkelly, Founder, Blinkback Video
David founded video production and marketing company BlinkBack in 2014 with the aim of helping businesses create and use compelling video content.
With 30 years experience, including 12 years teaching media at a top UK University, David’s approach to his business involves a blend of both creative production and educational services. From campaign video for national brands to LinkedIn video support for entrepreneurs and freelancers.
In 2020 David launched www.remotevideoteam.com to help entrepreneurs and professionals create more consistent, conversational video to meet the demands of personal branding through social media.
David will be discussing video production and whether it’s right for your business.
Jacqui Shaw, Director, Coralline Health
“I have the best part of 20 years’ experience working within the insurance industry and I can honestly say that it can, despite first appearances, be a great deal of fun! For example, with my first job at Travelex Group I travelled far and wide in Europe and Asia, working with big business to support their insurance needs and in my Management role at Budget Insurance Group I helped major brands to expand into all kinds of insurance from retail to cars and home policies.” – Jacqui Shaw
Before setting up our own business I had a spell in London with Marsh Insurance Brokers specifically running their insurance led employee benefits division, which I really loved.
With so many years working in the world of insurance I consider myself an expert in health insurance products and it’s a fantastic feeling to be working with so many interesting business, individuals and families.
At Success in Business, Jacqui will be talking about employee benefits.
